Summer Reading: Ocean
It is hard to believe that this is our fifth week of the summer reading program! You can find the printable guide here. We have had fun learning and playing with ice cream, camping, Fourth of July and zoo! This week’s activities have surprised me with how fun they’ve been. We found some awesome books and some really simple activities that keep my kids engaged.

Activities
Rainbow Fish Playdough
Invitation to play with playdough continues to be a hit with all three of my kids! We love this book and decided to make a playdough tray based on it. I ordered these gems and these shells and made playdough from our favorite recipe here! I threw in some ocean-themed cookie cutters and playdough tools I had on hand!
Jelly Fish Counting
I cut out a half circle and attached pipe cleaners to the bottom! I wrote the numbers 1-10 above each tentacle and will have the kids string the beads on and count!
Foil Fish Painting
I simply wrapped foil around a pre-cut fish! I helped with the scales and will let the kids color them in. We used these fun gel crayons on the foil!
Ocean Sensory Bin
If you have not tried magic water beads with your kids, YOU NEED TO! There is nothing that keeps my kids attention better than these! Supervision is definitely recommended, but my two older kids (4&6) do a nice job keeping them in the bin. I added these little ocean creatures to keep our theme, so fun! I let my littlest (19 mo) play with some in a heavier bin with lower sides. I wouldn’t leave him alone with these, but he loves them so much too!
Ocean Snack
I have a feeling that this will be our favorite book of the bunch! It is beautiful and has a lot fun facts that my kids will love. This will be a good snack or breakfast choice for us this week! I just put blue food coloring in our vanilla greek yogurt, added some granola and a few graham goldfish crackers!
I may add a few more activities as the week progresses and I will add them here if I do! We plan on being outside as much as we can and probably watching Moana a few times too ;) We hope you have a wonderful week and that you’re enjoying and participating in a few of these ideas!
