Summer Reading: Fourth of July
Happy almost Fourth of July! This summer is flying! We are looking forward to a week of patriotic snacks, some fun experiments, activities and cook outs with friends and family. If you want to jump in, you can always grab our Summer Reading Printable here!
Our library had SO many books for Fourth of July. I was really thankful because we really didn’t have any in our stash.

Activities
Bubble-Up Fireworks
We like to do some form of this activity for every holiday, the kids love it! I put baking soda in cookie cutters and gave the kids squirt bottles filled with vinegar and food coloring. When they squirt it, the baking soda bubbles up all over!
Patriotic Playdough
You can find my homemade playdough recipe here! It makes the softest dough! I just added a few star cookies cutters and American flag toothpicks for some open-ended play.
Shaving Cream Fireworks
This sensory/craft activity is SO fun! First, put some shaving cream on a plate and have your child smooth it out with their hands. Then, put a few drops of food coloring and have them spread it out from the center of the dot outward to make a firework shape. Finally, place a piece of paper on top of the shaving cream and gently press it down. Slowly pull the paper away and scrap the extra shaving cream off. The final result is super cute!
Patriotic Duck Pond
These little rubber ducks provided so much entertainment for my one-year-old! I just tossed them in our baby pool and he scooped, tossed and transferred them all over the yard.
Star-Spangled Rice Krispie Treats
We made the traditional rice krispie treats and added some patriotic sprinkles! The kids used star cookie cutters for a few, but we cut the rest into squares!
Fruit Kabobs
My kids love to make their own fruit kabobs for snack! I let them cut out watermelon stars and gave them toothpicks and other fruit to try!
We are keeping it nice and simple this week! Hoping to just enjoy some fun treats and a lot of time together reading! Have a fun and safe Fourth!
